Sandy Beaches in Coigach
Some of the best beaches in Britain.

Sandy Beaches

Coigach has a superb choice of sandy beaches, the best known being at Achnahaird which was featured in the Daily Mail - Sat 14th August 1999 - Best Of British Beaches by Sophie Butler who described it as :-
"A pearl of a beach on Scotland's West Coast where you will find fine sand and peace. It lies north of Ullapool and is reached by a single-track road two miles past Achiltibuie. From there, a short walk will get you to low-lying grass hillocks that back sand and rock pools. There are lovely views of Stac Polly and other neighbouring mountains from the beach and most of the surrounding area is made up of Inverpolly Nature Reserve. The reserve is a haven for wild cats, pine martens and golden eagles."

Other sandy beaches may be found at Acheninver, Badentarbet (right), Altandhu, Reiff, Camus Eilean Glas Garvie Bay and Badenscallie (below). Some are almost at the roadside while others can be reached on foot in 5 to 15 minutes.
You can expect to find sand from about half tide at most of these but don't be surprised if you don't find any people there, with so many places to go there is more than enough space for everyone.

Tide tables for the local area are available from Polbain Stores

There are also numerous sandy beaches to be found around the local freshwater lochs. Some are right beside the road and with no tide to worry about you can go any time.
