| The only broch in Coigach is in a poor state of repair and is located below Polglass. The ruins of a house and a number of walls now dominate the site and have been built of stone robbed from the original tower. There is a good path to the site which is a 10 minute stroll from the road. | ||

The curve of the remaining interior wall of the broch can be seen together with the house. |

Brochs are circular stone towers typically 30 - 40 feet high and 25 - 35 feet in interior diameter dating from the iron age around 2000 - 2500 years ago. There are many good examples surviving in Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles but many like the Coigach broch have fallen into a state of disrepair particular in areas where good quality building stone was in short supply. The example opposite is Dun Dornaigil Broch close to Loch Hope in Sutherland. |
